Like all workers in the German Reich, civilian forced laborers were covered by social insurance through their employers. Initially, only Polish civilian workers in agriculture and forestry and civilian forced laborers from the Soviet Union were exempt from this regulation. From January 1943 and April 1944 respectively, they were also subject to social insurance. Social insurance consisted of health, unemployment and disability insurance. However, civilian forced laborers rarely received support payments or benefits if they were insured.

Until June 1942, civilian forced laborers had to buy tokens, which were glued into their receipt cards for disability insurance (today: pension and disability insurance). After that, receipt cards without tokens were used. The civilian forced laborers could have used the receipt cards to prove the contributions they had made to the invalidity insurance scheme - but in practice, this was irrelevant to them. The contributions paid did not later result in any pension insurance claims in Germany. In fact, the insurance companies and the Nazi state enriched themselves in this way.
